Student Systems and Data (Access and Training)
Steps to Gain Access
* Employees in the College of Science, College of Architecture, and College of Agriculture must enter the associate dean as approver for their request to be processed.
FERPA training is required of every Virginia Tech faculty, staff, wage, and student employee who has access to student data and must be renewed every two years. Online on-demand training is available through the PageUp Learning Management System. This training is available to everyone but is required of employees with access to student data. To ensure timely processing of any request for access, please complete training prior to submitting a request for access.
Access to student records and/or data in a number of systems can be requested through a centralized request system. Visit the service catalog offered through 4Help and locate the access request service or click on the request link on this page to be directed to the form.
When submitting your request, you must identify an approver to route your request to. Employees should identify the approver as either the applicable dean or department head. Listing an incorrect approver will require a resubmission of your request. Employees may not approve their own requests.
The status of your access request may be confirmed by going to 4help.vt.edu and clicking on "Requests" in the top righthand corner of the page. This link will only display once logged in with your VT credentials.
Banner Student training is available to users as on-demand training modules via PageUp. To access the training videos you will need to enroll in the "Banner Student" course by self enrolling. Quick reference guides are also available in the training site.
