Diploma

The Office of the University Registrar will now handle order placement for all university diplomas with the addition of graduate level diplomas and certificates effective Spring 2024. The size of the graduate diploma and graduate certificates will now be 13.5" x 15.5". The format and current signatures will not be changed. Replacement diplomas will be handled in the same manner as undergraduate diplomas.

How do I order an additional or replacement diploma?

  1. Complete the Request for Additional/Replacement Diploma form found here.
  2. Submit the additional/replacement diploma fee ($20 per copy).

You may deliver your request form and additional/replacement diploma fee in person, or mail to:

Diplomas are 13.5 inches by 15.5 inches and will be in the current format with current signatures.
It takes approximately 10-12 weeks to receive a diploma.

The CeDiploma is an official, portable, and verifiable electronic version of the diploma. The CeDIploma can be validated with a 12-digit CeDID (Certified Electronic Document Identifier) by potential employers.

Please be advised:

  • Undergraduate students awarded a degree beginning with Fall 2018 and graduate students awarded a degree beginning Spring 2024 will receive the option to purchase a CeDiploma.
  • The price of a CeDiploma is $12.95.
  • Students that graduated prior to Fall 2018 will not be eligible to purchase a CeDiploma.
  • CeDiplomas do not include Double Major Certificates.

What appears on your diploma?

  • Name
  • Degree Title (See a complete list of degree titles.)
  • Major
  • Distinction (if applicable)
  • Honor Designation (if applicable)

Note: Minors and major concentrations/options DO NOT appear on your diploma

How do I add/update the address for my diploma order?

To receive a diploma from Virginia Tech, the graduating student must submit a Diploma Address well before the end of the graduating term. Previous existing addresses on file (e.g., permanent) will not automatically be used to ensure accurate delivery of the diploma document. To add/update the Diploma Address, follow the steps below:

  • Log into HokieSpa
  • Go to the HokieSpa tab
  • Click the Graduation menu
  • Click Add/Update Diploma Address
  • Click Add/Update

Note: an email with tracking information will be sent to the student's VT email account once mailed. Allow 10-12 weeks after the degree conferral date for the diploma to arrive. 

 

Notarized Diploma and Apostille

Printed Virginia Tech diplomas can be notarized by the university at no cost to the student. Note that an electronic diploma (CeDiploma) cannot be notarized.

1. Complete the Diploma Notarization Request form found here.

2a. Deliver in person or mail your physical diploma to our office, or
2b. Order a replacement diploma. To do so, complete the Request for Replacement Diploma form found here and submit the replacement diploma fee.

Request for Apostille:

Notarization is the first step to acquire an Apostille from the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Tech can only assist with the notarization step. The responsibility for submitting the Apostille request to the Secretary of the Commonwealth lies with the student or authorized third party facilitator.
