Enrollment Certifications and Degree Verifications

Virginia Tech has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to act as our agent to provide enrollment verifications. If you need to verify your Virginia Tech current or previous enrollment or anticipated date of graduation, an "Enrollment Verification Certificate" may be obtained by:

   Log in to Hokie SPA
   Choose Transcripts and Enrollment Verifications
   Select "Request Enrollment Verification Certificate"

As an authorized HOKIE SPA user, you will be automatically directed to the National Student Clearinghouse website. Via a secure log in, you may view or print enrollment information at any time. Enrollment Verification Certificates are printed from the Clearinghouse website and can be used as official verification of enrollment for insurance companies, employers, scholarships, or other agencies. There is no charge for this service. Also, you will enjoy the freedom of requesting and receiving this information at any time, day or night, without visiting our office.

Reporting Timeline: Virginia Tech considers registration for future semesters unofficial until the second day of classes of that term.  Therefore, we do not submit initial enrollment data to the Clearinghouse for Fall and Spring terms until the second day of classes. Subsequently, enrollment data is submitted after the last day to add classes.  During Fall and Spring terms, updates of enrollment data are submitted every 21 to 23 days and on the last day of the term.

During summer sessions, initial enrollment data is submitted after the last day to add classes and at the middle and the end of the terms.

The National Student Clearinghouse observes and complies with the Family Educational and Privacy Act (FERPA).

If you are unable to obtain an enrollment verification through the self-service system or need a letter/completion of another agency's form verifying degree(s) received, class rank, pre-registration for another term, grade point averages, or any other matter pertaining to your academic record or registration at Virginia Tech, you may request a certification with one of the links on the right side of the page.

Course Descriptions and Syllabi

Virginia Tech does not certify course descriptions as they are made publicly available at https://catalog.vt.edu/undergraduate/previous-publications/. Verification of courses completed is provided through the issuance of official Virginia Tech transcripts. Requests for official syllabi should be directed to the Virginia Tech academic department that houses the course(s).

Graduation Invitation Letter (International Guests)

Students participating in a graduation ceremony and wishing to invite guests that require a visa may need to provide an invitation letter accompanied by a certification letter to their guest. Your guest would need to provide the two letters together when visiting their consulate or embassy for their visa interview. A verification of your anticipated graduation date may be requested at the link above and a template for an invitation letter may be found here.

DO NOT MAIL this letter to the embassy/consulate. Email your invitation letter and the graduation verification letter to your guest to take to their visa interview.

Stafford (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) Loan and Federal Direct Loan Deferments

Virginia Tech participates in the National Student Clearinghouse for this service. Students who qualify for in-school deferments should receive their approval by the lender/loan service more quickly, avoiding confusing and inappropriate lender collection efforts during in-school deferment periods. Should student loan deferment requests be presented at the Office of the University Registrar, the request will be referred to the Clearinghouse for processing. All inquiries concerning deferments should be directed first to the lender or loan service. If the loan servicer indicates that the deferment has not been received from the Clearinghouse, you should then contact the Clearinghouse to determine the status of your deferment, see above for detailed contact information.

Note: Perkins Loan deferment forms are processed by the Office of the University Registrar and should not be referred to the Clearinghouse for processing.

Virginia Tech has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to act as our agent to provide degree and enrollment verifications. Third parties requesting enrollment or degree verifications should visit the National Student Clearinghouse website or call 703-742-4200.

Student-athletes must meet all NCAA general eligibility requirements, as well as other university academic requirements, to be eligible for intercollegiate competition. A representative of the Office of the University Registrar determines this eligibility by certifying that each student-athlete meets NCAA eligiblity requirements.

Notarization of official Virginia Tech documents is available if required by a state or government agency. If notarization is required for verification purposes, please complete the form found here.
